Well since I last posted, I had a beautiful baby girl! We named her Oakley Lauretta Kenly, she was born August 17, 2013 at 11:57pm, 8 pounds 4 ounces. Lauretta is Jeffreys Grandma Kenly, we are quite close with that set of grandparents, so we wanted to make sure to have their name carried on.
Here are a few pictures of our pretty little girl.
Here is my baby story:
I was really nervous with labor with baby #2 because I knew what to expect. When I had Nixon, I did not get the full drugged up experience I was hoping for. I did not really get the drugs in me from the epidural, long story short I felt everything, and that made me quite scared to have Oakley.
I actually went into labor the morning of Jeff's Grandma Carol Klassens funeral. As I was preparing to get ready, my water broke, and we sped off to the hospital from Cardston to Pincher Creek. I prefer Pincher Creek because it is a smaller hospital, and when I had Nixon I was the only one delivering at that time, and really had the nurses to myself which was the same this time around too! It did not take us long to get to the hospital, they checked me and I was hardly dilated at all. I was told to walk around to get things progressing. I was feeling contractions, but not very close together. Everyone says that the second is much faster, well that's a load of B.S.! I walked and walked for hours, until my labor completely stopped for a hour and a half. They were getting nervous, and decided to induce me. That hurt. Then I asked for my epidural as I slowly dilated. That was heaven. I waited hours to dilate, I was in active labor for 10 hours, twice the time of the labor I had with Nixon. When the nurse checked me around 11:40pm, she didn't even get her first knuckle in and told me it was probably time, my body had progressed a lot on its own. After 3-4 solid pushes, my little girl was out, and I was so excited!!!! That is 2 kids, no complications and never needed a stitch or nothing! Thanks to Pincher Creek Hospital, and their very patient staff of doctors and hospitals.
She was a little larger than I thought she would be weighing in at 8 lbs 4 oz, and 19 3/4" long. She was beautiful though, and we have had an awesome bond. She was nursing within minutes after being born which made me very excited! Nixon was tongue tied, but we did not know that for a few weeks and literally could not suck, so I felt rejected, and it was a tough start to our relationship, so I am very glad this one went so smoothly.
I left the hospital Sunday afternoon, around 1:00 pm, only 13 hours after having miss Oakley. Jeff had a lot of family around, and I wanted him to be able to see them, plus the hospital bed was not very comfortable. I regretted my decision that night as I was having the contractions of my uterus shrinking back up, and was in a lot of pain. Luckily we called the hospital and they told me I would alternate Tylenol and Advil for the pain, and then I was a happy Mamma!
One thing I would tell people who have not yet had a baby, there are pros and cons to the epidural. I felt it in my bad for a week due to having one, it is quite painful, but so worth it during the moments of labor, so pick your poison! Although Advil and Tylenol did help with the pain, and when you are adjusting from just having a baby, don't try and deal with the pain, I say take the drugs, you will be much happier. That is just my opinion though!
I headed to my parents house for a week while Jeff worked on the Farm. It was weird to be without Jeff and with a newborn, but she slept great! He was not gone long as it was hard to be away from his family. We did not stay in Canada too much longer as we were eager to get home and back to normal life.
Here are a few pictures from the summer, some highlights:
Nixon LOVED his time with Auntie Kristin!
Oakley is under that blanket, chillin' with Grandma.
Oakley was blessed in my parents home, I believe September 2nd?
When we got back to Rexburg, Jeff went back to school spending a lot of time in a grade 5 classroom for one of his classes, and I went back to work Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. While Jeff was in class, I took Oakley to work with me. It was kind of weird to have her there, but my boss was so great about everything!
Here is her first bath in Rexburg, I made a bikini out of her clothes to make the picture appropriate.
Here is Oakley at work on my desk with me....
We had some family photos taken, they turned out awesome. Oakley was only 7 1/2 weeks old, and she was very alert which was great. It was a week and a half before we were going to do them, when Nixon tripped outside while he was running, and hit the sidewalk and had to go in for his third set of stitches.
Three stitches later, he was all better!
Here are a few of my favorite pictures from family pics!
I want to get one blown up big for our home, but I am not sure which one yet. I think one that looks a lot like the last one, but not with Oakley positioned so oddly. What do you think?
Here are some pictures from Halloween
Oakley was a Dalmatian and me Cruella De Vil, Jeff was Woody and Nixon was Buzz light year!
Nixon did gymnastics this semester, and he was a rock star!
He was not always the most cooperative, but you could usually bribe him knowing the trampoline and foam pits were coming!
As the year got closer and closer to the end, we packed up a lot. In November Jeff flew to Las Vegas to find us a place to live. He traveled with his friend Terrance, and they had a great time. Rented a Fiat 500, haha weird boys!
The next week we headed to Canada for Alumni Basketball Tournament. Jeffs team won, again!
In December Jeff graduated!
Then we went to Canada again for Christmas!
Then headed back to Rexburg, and made the mode to Nevada!
This is the only picture I have from my phone, but we went on a date for our anniversary to Marriage can be Murder a dinner theater show, it was awesome!
This was us there!
We have settled in and already had visitors! We are so glad Jeffs parents helped us move and deal with all the moving truck drama that Budget brought us (we will NEVER use them again!) I am glad to be here in this warm place, its really nice and we are loving it here.
Nixon is his big boy bed!
We went and checked out Hoover Damn.
Oakley about to get changed in the trunk haha but her dress is so cute!
It was really windy.....
I have enjoyed having my kids as my only responsibility!
I really enjoyed having my parents here! I was sad to see them leave, but I know they will come back.
This started today. He already has 3 more stickers since I took this picture this morning. I finally got him to eat everything on his plate! yay!!! 1 point Mom, 0 points for Nixon.... but that's only just this morning.
Also, I have been potty training Nixon for a week now, not fun, but working better than before! Thought I would give him something good the first time and then make it a longer chart, and the prize just be dollar store toy, and then fade them out once its all habit. Wish me luck!
How I Potty Trained Nixon:
I decided to use the no pants method after going back and forth between other methods for a year. I never SERIOUSLY tried to potty train him, but gave half efforts to do so. It is so frustrating to Potty Train a child that does not care if he has poop on him. Its gross, its frustrating, and its not for the faint of heart. However, when I took his diaper off AKA his safety comfort zone, he could not even fart without going to the potty, and I knew I had won. I did not want to resolve to this idea of no pants potty training, but I am glad I did, no more nasty poopy 2 year old boy butt diapers for me.....just the occasional accident.
Fingers crossed.
We are excited for our future here, and I will try to be better at keeping all of you in the loop! I wish I was closer to friends and family, but we are making friends here, it just takes time!
Here is from our first weekend here Nixon and his buddies...
That is it for today.
-K.
